Calum Park

I am a Principal Modeller and Hydrologist, and a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager (C.WEM), Chartered Member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM). I joined Aegaea in 2025 and have worked in the water sector since 2017, specializing in hydraulic modelling, flood hydrology, and reservoir flood safety. My technical background also extends into long-term rainfall-runoff modelling for water resources projects. I am passionate about using rigorous scientific analysis to solve complex water challenges and ensure long-term environmental safety.

How I can help you

  • Hydrological & Hydraulic Modelling: I specialize in advanced fluvial/pluvial modelling and flood hydrology to unlock development potential for my clients.
  • Reservoir Flood Safety: I provide expert analysis for reservoir safety, drawing on years of collaboration with Dams & Reservoirs Engineerings as well as specialized research into geophysical methods for asset investigation.
  • Water Resources Planning: I utilize long-term rainfall-runoff modelling to support water resources projects and sustainable energy planning.
  • Research-Driven Solutions: My background in physics and sustainable energy allows me to apply unique analytical perspectives to environmental engineering.

Expertise in action

  • A96 Hardmuir to Fochabers Dualling: I developed large-scale 1D/2D linked fluvial hydraulic models to assess options for dualling the A96 road at DMRB Stage 2/3. I held a lead role in model build, calibration, and options development across 14 watercourses within the study area. Design optioneering included a series of route alignment comparisons and detailed mitigation testing to reduce flood impacts. My liaison with design teams was key to helping schematise and then mitigate the potential flood impacts of proposed designs. Detailed and frequent consultation with SEPA and Moray Council was also very important as key stakeholders in the project. A96 Hardmuir to Fochabers Dualling

  • River Wylye Restoration: Working as Project Manager and lead modeller I undertook hydraulic modelling and options appraisal to help schematise the design of a series of wetland habitats and naturalised river restoration with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. The models covered two reaches of the River Wyle, and were schematised to capture all key hydraulic features within the development and demonstrate that the increased onsite storage provided a reduction in flood flows downstream without increasing offsite risk. Following successful modelling and analysis, the proposals were submitted to the EA for consultation and approval at Outline Planning. Calum Park Project 2

  • HWUP Brimsdown: I am the lead hydraulic modeller assessing flood risk with regards to the proposed uprating and expansion of an existing substation in Enfield as part of a full, multi-stage planning application. The project has aimed to quantify baseline fluvial flood risk associated with multiple interconnected highly urban watercourses. Subsequently my work focused on the assessment of design proposals including compensatory storage and in-channel works. I developed models investigating different phases of the construction including temporary and permanent works as well as providing in-depth analysis and inputs into mitigation design to alleviate any potential flood risks to the wider area. Flood assurance was also of key importance to the client, so I assessed the development against multiple climate change epochs and risk profiles.

  • Scottish Water Asset Resilience: I developed Scottish Water’s methodology for assessing flood risk to its water and wastewater assets as part of a wider strategic climate resilience assessment. I led on the technical delivery, with specific focus on assessing fluvial, pluvial and coastal hazard. I took care to ensure the methodology was in-line with industry standard guidance and the latest climate change strategy, while providing the client with a useful deliverable to aid engagement and schematisation of site-specific assessments

  • SE climate change methodology: I acted as Project Manager and Hydrologist establishing SSE’s methodology for assessing the impact of climate change on future potential water availability to their hydropower schemes across Scotland. My data analysis compared the suitability/application of UKCP18 projections and the CMIP6 global climate models when applied to long-term rainfall runoff models. The long-term rainfall runoff models utilised GR-6J and relied on meteorological input data which is subject to significant impacts as a result of the changing climate.

  • Reservoir Safety Studies: Across my career I’ve undertaken many reservoir flood safety studies, most notably Toddbrook Reservoir Recovery Works. Following the near failure of the dam caused by a significant flooding event, I undertook a hydrological study of the reservoir Work focused on devising a combined routing/open channel model to investigate mitigation and remediation options while assessing the current level of threat. I successfully delivered extensive packages of work in very short timeframes, necessary due to the critical nature of the project. The project helped to ensure the safe return of 20,000 local residents to their homes. Prior to my work in consultancy, I undertook a specialized research assignment for the Environment Agency (EA) and British Dam Society (BDS), studying geophysical methods for reservoir safety investigations. A bit about me

I completed a Bachelors degree in Physics with Astrophysics and a Master’s in Sustainable Energy at Glasgow University. I am based in the west of Scotland but like to travel extensively in Scotland and further afield. On the weekends, you’ll either find me out in nature or playing music - I perform as a traditional Scottish folk musician, playing both the guitar and fiddle!
