Our Civil Engineering Services

Yesterday we announced the launch of Aegaea Civil Engineering and the benefits that can bring.

But what does that mean in practice?

Our new Director, James Mahoney, breaks down the type of work that Aegaea Civils is involved in and what this means for our clients.

Surface Water Drainage

We produce surface water drainage designs for both private and adoptable networks ranging from single residential properties, large scale residential developments, retirement/senior living and care home schemes, to industrial and commercial/retail developments.

We provide the technical information required to support a planning application and discharge of conditions, including layout drawings and detail, drainage strategy reports, management and maintenance details and construction phase surface water management plans.

We take a design from concept through to detailed design and construction, while working with the relevant drainage authorities to gain the relevant technical approvals, i.e. Sections 104, 106 and 185, Ordinary Watercourse Consent, SAB, etc.

When considering your specific drainage requirements, we can advise you on the best surface water disposal option using industry standards and the SuDS hierarchy, taking into consideration all site constraints.

Foul Drainage

We undertake private and adoptable foul drainage designs across several sectors.

Our designs are site-specific and fully compliant with sewage sector guidance and Water Authority requirements.

We can advise you on the best foul effluent disposal option based on your specific drainage requirements.

We are experienced in the design of connections to public sewers, outfalls to watercourses, and discharges to drainage fields.

We liaise with the relevant stakeholders, including Water Authorities, the Environment Agency, and Natural Resources Wales, to gain the necessary technical approvals and agreements, i.e., Section 104, 106, and 185 permits and consents.

Highways Design

Access and Off-Site Improvements

Our schemes range from the design of access provision for large-scale residential projects, complex junctions into new commercial and industrial premises, highway capacity improvements, and pedestrian/cycle/non-motorised user facilities.

At the pre-acquisition and feasibility stage, we consider the site risks and constraints and advise on the potential form of access, route selection and highway improvements that may be required to facilitate the project.

We provide the technical information required to support a planning application and discharge of conditions.

Working closely with the Transportation Planner, we ensure that our design is fully coordinated with any modelling undertaken or technical reports produced.

We undertake the detailed design and liaison with the Highway Authority and provide the layout drawings, construction details and specifications required for the necessary applications for technical approval and legal agreement, i.e. Section 278.

Estate Roads

Our work spans the initial feasibility assessment, development of the masterplan layout and preliminary design for planning applications, through to undertaking full detailed design, technical approvals, and construction.

Consideration is given at an early stage to vehicle swept paths and visibility requirements, and we take a proactive approach to communication with the design team, to ensure that the estate road design is fully coordinated with the masterplan and site constraints.

We undertake the design and modelling to meet the requirements of the Highway Authority and comply with design standards/specifications and the guidance set out in the Manual for Streets. Our team has extensive experience in the technical approval and legal agreement process, i.e. Section 38, where roads are offered for adoption.

Road Safety Audits, a specialist process that must be carried out independently of the design team, are often an important requirement of planning and technical approval/adoption. We can coordinate the audit with the Auditor, prepare an audit brief, review the findings, and prepare a designer’s response.

External Works

Levels

We undertake the detailed site-wide levels design, including proposed external levels and gradients and retainment, with careful consideration given to the existing site topography.

We work closely with the design team to ensure that the design is fully coordinated with other key features such as buildings, hard and soft landscaping, trees, etc.

We understand that our designs impact the local environment, and we pay careful attention to this while ensuring that a robust, cost-effective design is produced that meets the requirements of Local Authority guidance, Building Regulations, and our clients’ aspirations.

Ground Modelling

We produce a ground model of the proposed design, from which a number of options can be assessed and interrogated against the site topography to achieve the optimum earthworks design.

The ultimate objective is to minimise off-site disposal of material, which contributes to reducing development costs and shortening the programme.

This has also added environmental benefits by reducing road haulage and landfill disposal.
