Abbie Betts

Hi, I’m Abbie. I am a Senior Flood Risk Consultant at Aegaea with a background spanning both public and private sector flood risk management. I hold an MSc in Geoscience from University College London, where I graduated with Distinction, and a BSc in Geography from the University of Sussex.

I have worked across a wide range of flood risk disciplines, including flood risk and consequence assessments, surface water drainage strategies, and Property Flood Resilience (PFR). I take particular interest in PFR and have led and delivered detailed PFR surveys and reporting for a variety of local authorities and private clients across the UK. This has involved coordinating site visits, assessing property-level flood mechanisms, and developing resilience recommendations to support both private and community-scale PFR schemes. My work in this area has strengthened my belief in the importance of practical, evidence-based measures that make a real difference to households and businesses at risk of flooding. Beyond PFR, I have managed and contributed to schemes of varying scale and complexity, providing technical flood risk advice to clients including Amazon, Morrisons, and CBRE. My experience spans developments of all sizes, from small private extensions to large-scale commercial sites. I take pride in delivering clear, pragmatic advice that balances technical detail with a proportionate, solution-led approach. I particularly enjoy finding ways to present complex data and flood mechanisms in a way that supports better decision-making and sustainable development.

In my time outside of work, I like to travel and explore new places. I also enjoy gaming, crafting, and on sunnier days you might find me riding the waves on my paddleboard at Brighton Beach.
